Porchlight Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: June 20, 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs your use of Porchlight ("Service") and is incorporated into the Terms of Service. By using the Service, you ("Landlord") agree to this AUP and are responsible for all activity under your account.
1. Purpose of the Service
The Porchlight SMS line is provided solely to receive and coordinate property maintenance communications between you and your Residents. Use it only for that purpose.
2. Prohibited Uses
You may not use the Service to:
- Message Residents without consent, or after a recipient has opted out.
- Send unlawful messages — illegal, fraudulent, deceptive, defamatory, obscene, threatening, harassing, abusive, or that violate any law or carrier rule (including the TCPA and anti-spam laws).
- Spam — unsolicited, bulk, or repetitive messaging recipients have not consented to.
- Market or solicit — advertising, promotions, fundraising, political messaging, or any solicitation unrelated to property maintenance.
- Send non-maintenance content — rent-collection demands, eviction threats, harassment, retaliation, or unrelated personal communications.
- Harass or intimidate any Resident or person.
- Breach security — unauthorized access, probing, scanning, or circumventing security/authentication.
- Disrupt the Service — malware, interference, overloading, or denial-of-service activity.
- Scrape or extract data via bots/crawlers without authorization.
- Resell or misappropriate — resell, sublicense, rent, or use the Service to build a competing product.
- Misrepresent identity — impersonation, number spoofing, or misrepresenting message origin.
- Use for emergencies in place of 911 (see the AI and Emergency Disclaimer in the Terms).
- Infringe the intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of any person.
3. Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for all account activity, for obtaining and documenting required Resident consent, honoring opt-outs, and ensuring messaging complies with the TCPA and all applicable laws and carrier requirements.
4. Consequences of Violations
If we believe you violated this AUP, we may (with or without notice): warn you; remove or block content or phone numbers; throttle, suspend, or terminate access; and report activity to carriers, payment processors, or law enforcement. Suspension or termination for a violation does not entitle you to a refund. We may act immediately without notice where there is risk of harm, legal exposure, security threat, or carrier violation.
